Roadmap of an I.S.T.B. Intervention

This is a general path but may vary dependent on the case requirements and I.S.T.B.

  1. Referral submitted: school completes an I.S.T.B. Referral Form.
  2. Referral accepted: at a District Behaviour Committee Meeting.
  3. I.S.T.B. assigned by A.P. I.S.T.B.: School Principal and referring teacher notified by the I.S.T.B. assigned to the case. A time is arranged for an initial meeting.
  4. Initial Meeting: attended by any of the following personnel: Principal, Teacher, Supervisor, School Counsellor and I.S.T.B. Roles and expectations will be clarified, information about the student and problem will be shared and observation appointments will be made. (1/2 hour)
  5. Baseline Data Observations: normally 2-5 observations of approximately 30 minutes each. These can either be in the class and/or playground. A brief discussion of data with the class teacher follows each observation if time permits.
  6. Program Meeting: this may include the following personnel e.g. Teacher, Supervisor, I.S.T.B. During this meeting observation data and programming options will be discussed. A program is designed on a collaborative basis.
  7. Program Implementation: program is implemented. Relevant records need to be kept for monitoring purposes and review.
  8. Program monitoring and review: this may include further observations by the I.S.T.B., discussions with the Teacher and program adjustments if needed.
  9. Phasing Out and Maintenance: procedures are negotiated and put in place.
  10. I.S.T.B. Withdrawal: a date suitable is negotiated.
  11. Final Report: provided by the I.S.T.B. to all involved school personnel.
  12. I.S.T.B. Service Appraisal: school is asked to complete a form of the service provided by the I.S.T.B.

As a guideline, I.S.T.B. intervention generally takes 1-2 terms from the time of first contact to withdrawal.

I.S.T.B. Report: During the process written documentation is provided. This will include an Initial Report and Final Report and may include a Case Update.
